Institutional adoption of Ethereum is entering a new phase of market offense, looking past short-term price volatility and internal debates within the foundation.
Joseph Chalom, CEO of Sharplink (Nasdaq: SBET) and former head of digital asset strategy at BlackRock, stated that Ethereum dominates global stablecoin settlement, tokenized real-world assets, and high-value DeFi transactions.
Pointing to a track record of base-layer upgrades, including EIP-1559, Dencun, Pectra, and Fusaka, Chalom compared the network to early Amazon, expanding its true addressable market to the global financial ecosystem. The CEO noted that smart money invests counter-cyclically, mirroring Warren Buffett’s historical capital allocations and BlackRock’s post-FTX infrastructure push.
As the Ethereum Foundation narrows its operational focus toward core “CROPS” properties (censorship resistance, openness, privacy, and security), independent ecosystem stewards are assuming go-to-market leadership.
Entities including Sharplink, Consensys, BitMine, Nethermind, Aave, and Morpho are expanding their advocacy efforts, highlighted by Sharplink’s upcoming R&D initiatives and a $125 million DeFi yield fund with Galaxy Digital.
 
In support, Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin affirmed that traditional financial hubs are choosing the network, thereby covering strategic bases before launching live products, noting that “the surge is coming.”
This structural decentralization mirrors co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s vision of the Foundation operating as a limited node rather than a centralized authority. The EF is executed primarily by CSA operator @aerugoettinea, prioritizing technical longevity over breadth while holding 0.16% of supply.
Buterin, who holds nearly 90% of his net worth in ETH, noted his own power continues to decrease. His core roadmap emphasizes AI-assisted formal verification for bug-free code, robust consensus resilient against 49% attackers, and strict minimization of intermediaries via EIP-8141, alongside Raul’s work on erasure-coded P2P scaling.
Furthermore, network fundamentals are robust, with usage hitting an all-time high alongside record-low transaction fees and a growing staking queue, with Fundstrat staking 80% of its holdings.
Former BlackRock VP John Gillen described this phase as a transfer of supply from short-term speculators to high-conviction hands. This strength counters spot prices, as Santiment data revealed Ethereum recently slipped below $2,000 for the first time since March 29.
While price drops typically trigger widespread fear, retail sentiment has, counterintuitively, erupted in optimistic “buy the dip” calls. Historically, such crowd optimism indicates the local floor has further to fall.
