Stellar Flips Ethereum In Government Debt Tokenization

Stellar just pulled off one of those under-the-radar wins that makes the bigger chains look a little slow. According to on-chain data circulating this week, XLM has surpassed Ethereum in the value of non-US government debt tokenized on-chain — sitting at more than $520 million and still climbing.

That’s not total RWAs. That’s the specific lane of sovereign debt from places that aren’t the United States. While Ethereum still dominates the massive US Treasuries category, Stellar has carved out a clear lead where the rest of the world’s governments are concerned.

How Stellar Took The Big Lead

The numbers didn’t appear overnight. Platforms like Etherfuse have been busy issuing “Stablebonds” — tokenized funds backed by short-term government debt from multiple countries — natively on Stellar.

Mexican CETES (short-term federal treasury certificates), Brazilian Tesouro bonds, European government paper, and South Korean Treasury Bonds (KTBs) have all found a home there. Spiko has also stacked meaningful volume with euro-denominated treasury products and other non-US instruments.

Stellar’s low fees, fast finality, and payments-first design made it an easy fit for these issuers. When you’re dealing with cross-border sovereign instruments from Mexico, Brazil, the EU, or Korea and wanting them to move cheaply and settle quickly, the network’s architecture starts looking less like a nice-to-have and more like the right tool for the job.

Even smaller sovereign experiments have landed on Stellar, including the Marshall Islands’ digital sovereign bond used to fund on-chain universal basic income payments. The pattern is consistent: issuers looking beyond US Treasuries keep choosing the same chain.

Ethereum still owns the broader RWA conversation and the big US Treasury funds. But in this narrower, increasingly interesting slice of non-US government debt, Stellar is the one posting the bigger number.

USDC Joining The Party Doesn’t Hurt

Adding to the momentum, Circle’s USDC is live and native on Stellar, with Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) support already in place. That gives the network a clean on-ramp for dollar liquidity without the usual wrapped-token friction. For a chain positioning itself around real-world payments and tokenized assets, having seamless USDC connectivity is a quiet but useful advantage.

$XLM just surpassed Ethereum in non-US government debt tokenized on-chain.

$520M+ and counting. Circle’s USDC protocol just went live on Stellar too.

The tokenization race: $XLM is quietly winning a lane.#tokenization #XLM

Tokenization narratives usually revolve around the biggest names and the biggest markets. US Treasuries get the headlines because the dollar is still king. Non-US sovereign debt — Mexican CETES, Brazilian Tesouro, European paper, Korean KTBs — is the less-glamorous cousin until the volumes start adding up and the issuers keep choosing one particular chain.

Stellar didn’t win by shouting louder. They won by making the infrastructure simple enough and cheap enough that the people actually issuing these products preferred it. $520 million-plus isn’t going to rewrite market caps overnight, but it is a clean data point that XLM is winning a specific, growing lane in the tokenization race while many were still looking elsewhere.
