From Centralized Exchanges to Self-Custody
In July, centralized exchange (CEX) trading volume dropped almost 24%, a 32-month low, while spot volume alone fell 31%. Decentralized exchanges (DEXs), in the meantime, captured a record 19% share of spot trading volume. When trading slows down overall, activity focuses on decentralized platforms, not centralized exchanges like Binance or Coinbase.
Public exchanges are feeling the shift directly. Coinbase’s Q2 transaction revenue fell 21% compared to the same period last year. Robinhood’s crypto transaction revenue dropped 38%.
Crypto Wallets as Super Apps
