Microsoft released Exchange Server Subscription Edition RTM (KB5047155) on July 1, 2025. Also known as Exchange Server SE RTM. This release continues Microsoft’s commitment to supporting enterprise email services across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
Exchange Server SE
Exchange Server SE introduces changes to how Exchange is serviced and licensed. Unlike previous versions, Exchange SE is governed by the Modern Lifecycle Policy. This means there is no fixed end date for support, provided that configurations remain current. The product will be serviced continuously as an evergreen release, with no additional major, year-based versions planned for future releases.
Exchange Server SE RTM build can be installed as a cumulative update (CU) to Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 CU15 or CU14, and it can be joined to your existing Exchange Server 2019 or Exchange Server 2016 organizations.

How to update Exchange Server 2019 to Exchange Server SE?
If you have Exchange Server 2019 running in the organization, you should perform an in-place upgrade:
- Download Exchange Server 2019 CU15 and Install the Exchange Cumulative Update
- Download Exchange Server SE and Install Exchange Cumulative Update
How to update Exchange Server 2016 to Exchange Server SE?
If you have Exchange Server 2016 running in the organization, you should perform a legacy upgrade:
- Download Exchange Server 2016 CU23 and Install the Exchange Cumulative Update
- Download and install Exchange Server SE on a supported OS
- Configure Exchange Server SE
- Create mailbox databases on the Exchange Server SE
- Move the mailboxes to Exchange Server SE
- Decommission Exchange Server 2016
