Speculation is mounting in the crypto community over whether Solana (SOL) has the momentum to flip Ripple’s XRP in market capitalization. While both assets have benefited from rising interest in spot ETFs and vibrant developer ecosystems, the charts paint a discouraging picture for Solana.
Despite its rapid growth, Solana’s market cap is currently approximately $22 billion behind XRP’s. For SOL to overtake XRP, it would require a monumental price shift that fundamentally outpaces Ripple’s established enterprise footprint.
XRP itself is currently enjoying fresh technical strength. Analyst Ali Martinez revealed that the asset recently triggered a “SuperTrend” buy signal, last seen in mid-June and historically preceded by notable price rallies. Furthermore, Ripple’s expansion has also been bolstered by its European launch under MiCA regulations and a noticeable surge in AI-agent transaction volume on the XRP Ledger.
Trading at $1.14 at press time, XRP has posted a 3.00% gain over the past 24 hours, with analysts suggesting that if it holds the $1.10-$1.12 support zone, a move toward $1.20 could be on the horizon.
Meanwhile, SOL is trading at $81.82, with its path to $100 hinging on its ability to sustain current support levels while handling major technical upgrades, according to analyst CryptoMichNL.
 
The upcoming Alpenglow and operating Firedancer protocols are designed to push the network toward 150ms finality and over 1 million transactions per second, in line with institutional demand for tokenized equity and stablecoins.
However, the ecosystem faces internal friction, as the new Solana Governance Proposal (SGP) has raised eyebrows by concentrating voting power among large validators, creating a complex narrative for those who value pure decentralization.
Ultimately, both assets appear to target different market segments. While XRP is aggressively targeting enterprise-grade cross-border utility and AI integration, Solana is betting on raw throughput and institutional-grade efficiency. For now, the market cap gap remains a significant barrier for Solana as both networks vie for the next wave of capital.
