USDT is supposed to be backed by a dollar held in reserve by Tether Limited. Yet, doubts arise about the existence and security of these reserves. Tether’s history is marked by controversies, including accusations of market manipulation, insolvency rumors, and regulatory investigations.
In 2017, Tether was linked to Bitcoin price manipulation. By 2018, concerns about its solvency emerged, exacerbated by the end of its relationship with an auditing firm. In 2019, the New York Attorney General investigated Tether for concealing a significant financial loss.
These controversies highlight the potential risks associated with USDT. If confidence in Tether diminishes, it could trigger a market crash. Moreover, regulatory actions might restrict access to USDT, affecting liquidity and trading volumes.
