Zcash is one of the cryptocurrencies with mining capability powered by the PoW (Proof-of-Work) mechanism. Although Bitcoin is the most well-known digital asset for mining, Zcash, Monero, Litecoin, and others have also made a name for themselves as top tokens that can be mined profitably.
What catalyzed the surge of Zcash mining activity
As per the data, mining activity across the Zcash network has increased 2.5 times in 2026, driven by recent price appreciation. The asset is currently highly profitable to mine, offering greater profitability than Bitcoin. As the analyst noted, Zcash mining rigs currently produce four times more revenue (per megawatt-hour) than Bitcoin miners under current conditions.
Recent ZEC’s sharp price surges have boosted mining profitability and pushed network hashrate to peak levels. The price surge has improved profitability and activity for Zcash miners, attracting more computational power to the protocol.
Zcash’s hashrate hit 27.9 GSol/s on September 10, while its network computational power climbed to 91% of its ATH, showing a significant increase in the network’s hashrate. This happens as Zcash price and mining economics grow significantly. Often, higher prices increase mining profits, encouraging miners to deploy specialized devices to mine ZEC.
 
Bitcoin and Zcash mining: what to know currently
Market developments show that while Bitcoin holds the larger share of crypto industrial mining, Zcash’s popularity is rising. Both coins use the PoW mechanism, where machines solve a puzzle on their respective networks, allowing miners to earn rewards in both coins under normal market conditions.
As the analyst noted, Bitcoin and Zcash are among the largest and most profitable PoW cryptocurrencies, with market caps of $1.55 trillion and $19.44 billion, respectively. ZEC is currently drawing enormous enthusiasm among crypto miners, fueled by its ongoing market rally.
